About this living lab

The Amt für Wald beider Basel (Forest Office) is responsible for the preservation of forests and wildlife for present and future generations in both cantons of Basel (Basel-Landschaft and Basel-Stadt) and allows the forests to provide a wide variety of ecosystem functions (water purification, protection from natural hazards, climate regulation etc.). As such, we try to promote the sustainable and careful use of resources and enable the protection and development of natural and diverse habitats and communities.

Objectives

The Amt für Wald beider Basel is committed to increasing resilience of the forest ecosystem to societal and environmental change. We also try to ensure compatible recreational and leisure activities, as well as ensure forests’ long-term protection against natural hazards.

Our current management approach is thus based on an integrative approach, in which we focus on integrating production, protection and provision of ecosystem services.
